The scroll, written by the despairing Setne, tells how he failed to save Shai from his father's wrath, but used his magical powers to wrangle a concession from the gods to save her from eternal damnation by sending her soul into the future where she will find a chance for redemption.
As Dessie and Shai's lives converge, the plot against Ramses finds its counterpart among present-day Egyptians when radical Islam grips the villages surrounding the Valley of the Kings.
